Double eyelid

 Double eyelid. Installation. 2016.

Double eyelid is a project related to fragmentation and modification of the unity. In this case, it is connected to the modification of the body and identity. In it, I explore the dialogue between a series of objects and a video where the modification of the Korean identity to suit Western aesthetics is the protagonist. The work presented shows a series of traditional Korean objects used for measurements, such as toe box, a weight or Chi Quang rule, which I modified to conform to Western standards.

The double eyelid surgery is a very popular trend among women in South Korea and Japan. In such operations, the eyelid muscles are cut to create a crease and thus mimic the double eyelid of Western eyes. In addition to these radical processes, there is a series of temporary modification products on the market such as stickers, temporary glue, etc. The video is a YouTube tutorial which explains one of these methods.

The objects accompanying the video are:

-Toe box, traditionally used to measure the grain, and with a capacity of 1.8-liter cut in 1 liter.

-Quang weight, equivalent to 3.2 kgs. I made a 3D representation to calculating the exact volume and shape cut into two fragments, leaving 2.2 kg on the floor and 1 kg in the balance.

-Chi bamboo ruler, in this case, I cut rule 20 Chi (60 cms approx.) In rule 50 cms.
